Iron Extaction From Smelting Slag of Sulfur Pyrite

Sulfur residue is indigenous fired sulfur pyrite slag, which has high iron content in the slag. And it is worthy to extract the iron from the seemingly useless waste as raw material for steel making, then how to extract iron from the sulfur residue?

The presence of iron is in different forms according to the sintering degree of the pyrite smelting slag. The iron mostly exist in the form of iron oxide, and few of iron disulfide, so select the right iron extraction method and equipment according to the properties of the iron content.

Generally speaking, iron contained in the sulfur slag are mainly FeO3 or few Fe3O4. Magnetic separation, unfortunately, can not be used to achieve the desired requirements. While the gravity separation is proved to be a feasible beneficiation method. Forui adopts gravity jigging method to extract iron from sulfur slag and the iron concentrate grade is up to 56-61% with 81-86% recovery rate.
